Thankgsiving in The United States

 

          Thanksgiving is one of the most important holidays of the year. This holiday celebrates a group of English settlers called Pilgrims. The Pilgrims arrived in the present day state of Massachusetts in 1621 and founded the town of Plymouth. But during the first winter, the 102 Pilgrims didn’t have enough to eat, and were going to starve. So the American Indians helped the Pilgrims by sharing a part of their harvest.

The first Thanksgiving

Today, we celebrate the food that the Indians provided for the Pilgrims by eating a large dinner. We typically eat food from the harvest such as corn, pumpkin, turkey, fruit and nut pies, and a plate of
bread and vegetables called stuffing. Thanksgiving occurs on the last Thursday in November, so this year it is the 24^th.

 

In my family Thanksgiving is not very important. However, it is a good opportunity for everyone to come together, to talk, and to eat a delicious meal. This year, because I am in Spain, I’m going to celebrate Thanksgiving with some of my American friends in Toledo… Happy Thanksgiving!
